Tip 3

Applying M50 Moldings

One of the biggest advantages of SIBU Design products is their quick and easy use. Here, you will find out how to deal with inner and outer edges when applying SIBU M 50 moldings.

SIBU M 50 moldings can be used for inner and outer edges on seven differing types of surfaces. The following most common types were tested by SIBU Design specialists:

Uncoated chipboard
Coated chipboard
High pressure laminate sheet
Tiles
Painted metal
Gypsum board with dispersion paint
Plastered walls

Adhesive
The best results have been achieved with water based contact cement, however practically any solvent-free glue may be used.

The bonding process with water based contact cement (solvent-free!!!):
1. Make sure you are using water based contact cement, other types will ruin the finish.
2. The adhesive needs to be applied to the entire surface of bonding and the back side of the molding.
3. Let the adhesive dry for about 10-15 minutes until its color changes from milky to clear.
4. The M 50 molding of suitable length should be pressed onto the inner and outer edges and secured with an adhesive tape for one to two hours. This is especially important with regard to outer edges.
5. Please make sure to remove protective film off the M 50 molding once the bonding process has been completed. Tip! It is imperative to have protective film in place during the mounting with adhesive tapes. Care must be taken during bonding to ensure the level of surface tension is at least 38 dyn.

The bonding process for other then contact cement types of solvent free glue:
1. The adhesive should be applied to the surface in a straight line using a glue gun at a distance of around .25” from the edge.
2. The M 50 molding of suitable length should be pressed onto the inner and outer edge and secured with an adhesive tape for one to two hours. This is especially important with regard to outer edges.
3. Please make sure to remove protective film off the M 50 molding once the bonding process has been completed. Tip! It is imperative to have protective film is place during the mounting with adhesive tapes. Care must be taken during bonding to ensure the level of surface tension is at least 38 dyn.
